These woods are not simply collections of trees, but living structures formed over centuries by exposure to Atlantic rain, shifting light, stone, moss,s and wind.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe first body of work concentrates on the ancient oak woodlands of Wicklow, including remnants of the old forests that once covered much of the eastern valleys and hillsides. Particular attention is given to the character and physical presence of the trees themselves — their form, fractured bark, twisted limbs, ageing surfaces and the quiet geometry found within the woodland canopy. Locations such as Tomnafinnoge, the Glen of the Downs and Clara Vale retain fragments of these historic oak landscapes, some connected to forests that existed long before modern Ireland.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRather than documenting the forests in a traditional landscape style, the work studies atmosphere and detail through changing conditions and seasons. Rain, mist, low winter light,t and periods of heavy cloud are used deliberately to soften contrast and reveal texture in bark, leaf, stone,e and moss. In certain conditions, the forests appear almost monochromatic, allowing structure and tonal depth to emerge with greater clarity.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe series combines a range of photographic approaches — from wider environmental studies that describe the rhythm and spacing of the woodland, to quiet,r isolated observations of branches, roots, surface details,l and shifting light. Long exposures, subdued tonal palettes, and restrained colour are used throughout the work to create a contemplative visual language that is consistent with the stillness of these environments.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAt the centre of the project is an interest in permanence and fragility existing together. Many of these forests are survivors — fragments of a once extensive native woodland system that shaped parts of the Irish landscape for centuries.
